OBJECTIVE: Improving community health through the construction of a health center in Ankober. The project aims at promoting the construction of the health center in collaboration with Ankober Health Department, in order to improve the access and quality of health care in the area.
The health center, smaller than a hospital, represents a frontline structure in delivering primary health care to a high number of communities.
The action is in line with Ethiopian development plan, which foresees the construction of one health center each 25.000 inhabitants by 2010. The project rises at the bottom, it comes up from an explicit need detected on the ground and according with local community’s demand. The health center, one accomplished, will avail itself of medical staff salaried by the government.
BENEFICIARIES:
Benefiting of the health center will be the whole Ankober community, in Amhara Region: a total of 76.463 inhabitants, of which 32.114 (42%) are children aged from 0 to 14 years old.
